The National Council for the Elderly was established by Government in 1993 and falls under the Ministry of Health, The Elderly and Community Care. The Council brings together Non-Government Associations / Organisations that work on a voluntary basis to promote and safeguard the interests of Elderly persons. At present, there are 18 such Associations affiliated. Holders of KartaAnzjan who are not Members of such organisations are also 'protected' by the National Council for the Elderly. The National Council for the Elderly serves as a bridge between the Elderly - whether organised or not - and the Government as well as other International Organisations for the Elderly. The purpose is always that of promoting and safeguarding the interests of the Elderly.
All the Members of the Council are Volunteers.
